The Baron hanging from a rope below the Moon.
Fig. 67. The specimen, drawn from life.

His Majesty the Sultan bet me his beard that no man could count the sand in his garden. I asked for a spoon and one afternoon. At sundown I gave him a number so long it took two clerks to say it. He checked none of it, shaved at once, and wept.

Eels came up the drainpipe at my house in Bremen. I tied them end to end, and we made a rope that reached the church tower. The bell ringer was most grateful. Sadly the rope went home in the rain, and it took the bell and the ringer with it.

London fog was so thick one morning that I cut a slice and took it home. My cook fried it with onions. It tasted of coal and old rain. We sold the rest as gray wool, and a tailor in Leeds made me a fine suit that vanished at noon.

A hurricane off Jamaica tried to take my hat. I held on to the brim. The storm pulled, I pulled, and we spun around the island for three days. At last the wind gave up and begged for terms. We signed a treaty, and it has gone around my hats ever since.

Snoring is a talent, and mine once.
